چکیده
The low radiant intensity of hydrogen flames may be enhanced by adding biofuels with a high sooting propensity. This paper reports the effect biofuel concentration and phase on combustion characteristics turbulent nonpremixed hydrogen-based flames. 0.2 1 mol% vapourised/spray surrogates blended exhibit limited soot loading, except for spray toluene anisole blends where starts to form. Spray additives benefit formation creating localised fuel-rich conditions. Blending 3.5 4 vapourised attains flame significantly enhances luminosity fraction. global NOx emissions increase prevapourised/spray due NO via thermal prompt routes. Reducing from 9:1 7:3 in H2/N2 (by mole) leads large increases fraction 34 times 135%, respectively, reduction 68%.

Direct Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Counterflow Nonpremixed Flames
This paper presents our recent progress in terascale three-dimensional simulations of turbulent nonpremixed flames in the presence of a mean flow strain and fine water droplets. Under the ongoing university collaborative project supported by the DOE SciDAC Program [1] along with the INCITE 2007 Project [2], the study aims at bringing the state-of-the-art highfidelity simulation capability to th...
متن کاملTransient soot dynamics in turbulent nonpremixed ethylene–air counterflow flames
The dynamics of soot formation in turbulent ethylene–air nonpremixed counterflow flames is studied using direct numerical simulation (DNS) with a semi-empirical soot model and the discrete ordinate method (DOM) as a radiation solver. Transient characteristics of soot behavior are studies by a model problem of flame interaction with turbulence inflow at various intensities. The interaction betwe...
متن کاملEffects of Gravity on Sheared and Nonsheared Turbulent Nonpremixed Flames
The present numerical study is concerned with the fundamental physics of the multi-way interaction between turbulence, chemical reaction and buoyancy in a nonpremixed flame. The method of direct numerical simulation (DNS) is used to solve the instantaneous three-dimensional governing equations. Because of the present supercomputer limitations, we consider two simple flow geometries, namely an i...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Turbulent Nonpremixed Jet-flames and Jet-flames in Crossflow in Normal- and Low-gravity
It is well known that buoyancy has a major influence on the flow structure of turbulent nonpremixed jet flames. For example, previous studies have shown that transitional and turbulent jet flames exhibit flame lengths that are as much as a factor of two longer in microgravity than in normal gravity. The objective of this study is to extend these previous studies by investigating both mean and f...
